OP SOCIAL EVENTS AND REUNIONS
SUMMER REUNION 2024
OPs were welcomed back to school for a fantastic day of milestone celebrations , reminiscing and festival fun at the OP Summer Reunion 2024 .
This year ’ s Summer Reunion featured several year group reunions with OPs from 1964 , 1974 , 1994 , and 2014 returning to celebrate milestone leaving anniversaries at their alma mater . The Friends of Pocklington School Committee ’ s ‘ Pock Fest ’ event was held on the same day in the afternoon , adding to the lively and fun atmosphere around the school site , and with the weather set fair for a change , an enjoyable day was had by all .
As per tradition , the day started with the OP cricket match getting underway at 11.00am with a strong OP side poised to take on the school ’ s 1st XI . The ever-popular archive was open for visitors in the morning , and teaching staff member , Patrick Dare , led a pre-lunch tour of the school for the Class of 2014 , who were celebrating 10-years since leaving school .
Year groups marking special leaving anniversaries had reserved tables for the carvery lunch , ensuring that classmates could sit together and catch up on old times . As last year , David Richardson ( 46-53 ) and David Wood ( 47-54 ) were the two most senior OPs in attendance . The lively atmosphere and animated conversations filling the dining hall were a sure sign that everyone was having an enjoyable time .
Charlie Lambert ( 01-08 ), OP President , and Toby Seth , Headmaster , said a few words of welcome and gave a brief update on the school . Rachel Dare , OP Liaison Officer , gave a special mention to and invited a round of applause for school cook , Debbie Stringer who has been working at the school for 50 years since she left school – an amazing accomplishment !
After lunch , the cricket resumed , the Sixth Form tour guides assembled their groups for the tours , and Trevor Loten ( 70-80 ) coordinated ( and played in ) the Edmund-Loten mixed doubles tournament on the school astros . Meanwhile , on Fenton ’ s field , the Pock Fest event was in full swing with live music , a variety of food and craft stalls , games , and activities including a giant inflatable slide and a bucking bronco ! The day concluded with afternoon tea in the Dining Hall to round off another excellent Summer Reunion event for OPs – even the weather played its part with a spell of long overdue sunshine making the day an even more enjoyable occasion !
Thank you to everyone who came this year and we hope to see many more OPs at next year ’ s event !
