PIXIES REPORTS 2020
Pixies chase down Yorkshire Gents Pocklington Pixies vs The Yorkshire Gentlemen played at Escrick Park , Escrick , 20 August 2020
The Pocklington Pixies travelled to Escrick Park for their re-arranged fixture with the Yorkshire Gentlemen and got back to winning ways on a track that made cricket one for the patient . Bearing in mind the amount of rain that had fallen during the week , it was credit to the ground staff for preparing such a good surface at the beautifully picturesque ground .
Captain for the day , Jonty Goddard won the toss and elected to field and it looked like a sensible decision as the YG openers struggled to get started . They persevered and managed to get to 50 at the halfway stage . The Pixie bowling attack spearheaded by Henry Kay and Jack Woodhead applied the run rate pressure , but couldn ’ t get the breakthrough . Then a change to spin , saw the wickets begin to tumble with Chris Suddaby ( 2-16 ), Jack Holman ( 3-22 ) ripping through the heart of the YG ’ s team , with the pace of Goddard ( 2-13 ) making an interesting change toward the end of the innings . The YGs managed to scrape to 116 all out in the 40th over as Will Atkinson took his 2nd Pixie wicket . Special mention to Reuben Moore for earning his first Pixie cap .
At the start of the game , it looked like 150 would be a competitive score .
The Pixies opened their innings with Joe Moore ( 14 ) and debutant Harry Matthews ( 22 ) battling against a decent pace attack on a challenging surface . Moore was removed in the 9th over and a second debutant Jack Woodhead ( 11 ) joined Matthews and progressed the score to 61 by 23 overs . Credit to them both as the batting was hard going .
Jack Holman ( 31 *) joined Matthews , but immediately Matthews was given out LBW to an interesting umpiring decision . Then Goddard ( 1 ) joined Holman , but had a moment of madness and ran himself out . The Pixies stunned a little at 63-4 needed to galvanise . Matt Atkinson ( 12 ) joined Holman but could not really support , Steve Burdett
( 4 ) came and went . All the time , Holman was amassing runs at the other end .
Holman and Chris Suddaby ( 5 *) saw the Pixies home in the 35th over to get the Pixies back to winning ways . Thanks to Malcolm Woodruff for umpiring .
The Alasdair Swann Trophy Pocklington Pixies vs Men of Derwent played at Woodhouse Grange , 13 September 2020
The Pixies and Men of Derwent were contesting the annual Alasdair Swann Trophy , commemorating ‘ Swanny ’ who was such a Pixies and Woodhouse stalwart . And when the trophy was presented at the end of the day by his family , a glass was also raised to the memory of Malcolm Milne – it was the first time in over 50 years that the late Pixies ’ leading light was not there .
However , the game was played in a friendly and light hearted spirit . The Pixies batted first and posted
159-6 with good contributions from Jack Bolam ( 31 ), Adam Iyer ( 28 ) and Henry Kay ( 27 ) without anyone being able to go on to a big score . Five home bowlers shared victims , with Tom Young ’ s 2-22 the best return .
The Pixies got early wickets to raise their hopes , but Young and Chris Bilton have shared numerous match winning partnerships in their time and on their day can be almost impossible to bowl at . It was one of those days as the Men of Derwent sped to their target in a flurry of boundaries and dropped catches , Young ( 58 not out ) sailing to his half century , and Alasdair Swann ’ s grandson , Bilton ( 45 not out ), fittingly winning the match with another six .
