Introduction to Graphic Arts
By OJCL Central Gubernator Bea Sull (Columbus Academy)
One of my favorite parts of convention (besides the spirit and the amazing friends,
of course!) has always been the graphic arts contests. From leafing through books
of myths to find inspiration to the last-minute grind to finish one last project the
week before convention, the process gets me excited about both my artwork and
the convention to come.
● If you’re in need of some project inspiration, look at the graphic arts page
on the OJCL website and check out all 31 categories: from drawing and
painting to jewelry and textiles, there’s really a category for everyone.
● Your subject can be anything
classics related, so the possibilities
are practically endless. Have a
favorite myth or an aspect of Roman
life that you find interesting? You’re
already on your way!
● Whether or not you submit a
project, consider walking around
during one of the project viewing
times. The talent and hard work of
dedicated JCLers is quite a sight to
see!
● Don’t forget to preregister your art
so it gets reviewed!
● Most importantly, remember to
have fun! Graphic arts projects are a
great chance to learn more about
mythology, history, and the arts in
your own way and create something
amazing while you’re at it.
An OJCLer shows off her graphic arts
project!
Bonam fortunam, and may you get a snazzy ribbon for your efforts!
