All About Pre-Convention Prep !

Its that time of year again , everybody ! Prepping for convention can be super stressful , but as long as you manage your time properly it can be not only easy but just as fun as the three days we spend together in Columbus in March ! These are 4 steps you can take to make this process as easy and as fun as possible :
Choose a focus Will you be an academic weapon and ace all the tests ? Will you showcase your artistic skills in graphic and creative arts ? Or maybe will you practice your hyperbuzzing for certamen to make absolute sure you ’ ll be the one to score that round-winning toss up ? Whatever you enjoy or are good at , pick your focus so you know what you should spend your time on leading up to convention .
Get ahead on studying If you plan on studying for academic tests or Certamen , making that Quizlet early or spending your time during a free period studying instead of playing BlockBlast really does make a difference ! Ask your sponsors and teachers for past Certamen questions or practice NLE-style test questions and spend a little bit of time every day reviewing a few so you can score all kinds of academic points .
Help out fellow club members ! Especially if you ’ re a more experienced convention-goer , help out younger members of your club prepare for their first convention , or even just work together with your friends on your convention prep . Hosting a few after school project work days for your club or teaching younger members spirit cheers during club meetings will help them feel more prepared and have more fun at convention so we can make their first OJCL experience amazing !
Manage your project work If you plan on focusing on projects , make sure you know the deadlines for your projects and make a plan before you start so you can space out your work ! Making sure you aren ’ t stretching your time too thin is important too . 3 or 4 welldone projects will always be better than 10 mediocre ones . A good guide to project load is between 2 and 4 preconvention projects , and 1 or 2 graphic or creative arts projects , depending on how much time you ’ ll spend on each . Remember preconvention projects and club projects are due February 14th !
