As everyone is gearing up and getting ready for state convention here are a few things you should know so that

you are extra prepared!

What to do before convention?

Pre-Convention Contests

As you start getting pumped up for convention, there are a variety of different contests you can do before to maybe win an award at convention or just for fun. From drawing a comic to making a music video with your school club, there are a variety of different options to choose from. I know that these competitions can seem high pressure, but these are very low stake contests and the judges are very friendly. Besides, there is nothing bad about just trying something out.

What to Expect at Convention?

Testing

I know that testing may not be the most interesting thing to do at convention, but you may want to try it out. You can

Colloquia

Colloquia are talks from many different speakers on various classic related topics. These Colloquia can be a good place to learn something new and talk to people you have not been able to before. Many colloquia are interactive!

Spirit

Spirit is a place where different schools battle it out to see who has the best JCL pride. You can really show your JCL pride and love for latin during spirit so make sure to be loud and as energetic as possible.

Election Events

During convention there are multiple events that are related to electing a new OJCL board.

These events are great opportunities to learn more about the OJCL board and how it functions if you want to run in the future. One of these events, Meet the Candidates, can even offer some laughs and giggles as candidates answer serious and silly questions.

Coin Wars

If you have any change make sure to bring it as all the OJCL officers will have coin war jars. All the money collected during this event will be donated to charity and the winning officers may have a silly surprise waiting for them.

Just talk and make friends

The true purpose of convention is to talk and get to know different people from all around the state that share the same passion for the classics as you do, so make sure to talk to a lot of new people and make new friends!
