Ursuline Academy’s Latin Club has had an
exciting year! Brainstorming for convention projects
has continued, and a t-shirt design has been
completed. Groups for each project have been formed,
and some of the projects have been started.
After the club dues were announced, 19 students
decided to become official members of Latin Club, the
OJCL, and the NJCL. We are super excited to welcome
these students into the club!
At some of our previous meetings, we have
practiced certamen like it is played at the state level,
with the officers reading, judging, keeping score, and
calling out the buzzer of the student that is to
answer. We have also imposed buzzer checks and time
limits, to simulate a real certamen as much as
possible.
Most recently, all of the language clubs at
Ursuline got together for a holiday celebration! Latin
club had a great time learning about German, French,
and Spanish traditions. Kehley Coleman spoke about
Saturnalia, and everyone played a Kahoot by Hannah
Frame that included general mythology knowledge,
common place translations, and translating titles of
popular Christmas carols into English from Latin. We
look forward to continued fun in the months leading
up to convention!
