CHAPTER UPDATES!
McAuley Latin has had a lot of fun
activities going on lately! To start things off,
four girls went to Fall Forum back in
October, and they had a blast there! Also in
October, we had a pumpkin decorating
Latin Club meeting. We go over different
monsters in mythology and, using our
creativity and lots of glue, turn the
pumpkins into monsters! We took them over to
the Sisters of Mercy convent next door, and the
sisters loved them! They eagerly anticipate our
visit in October with our pumpkins every year.
Four of our Latin Club officers got up
bright and early on a rainy Saturday morning to
help set up for the College Hill Pumpkin Patch
also in late October. We set up tables, hauled
pumpkins around, and made sure the tents were
ready to go by the time the families showed up. Next comes the Miami
Certamen, where our Novices were outstanding! They ended the
competition in second place, and we couldn’t be more proud of them!
Our Upper team got fifth place, narrowly missing third place by one
question. By the time exams rolled around, the whole school was
feeling the effects of the stress. In order to help everyone de-stress,
Latin Club decided to watch Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, despite
its lack of, ah, truth to the book. We had oodles of snacks and
everyone enjoyed themselves and the break from exam studying.
McAuley Latin is excited for 2018! We hope to have lots of fun,
not to mention convention coming up in March! We are confident that
we will be just as busy as we were in 2017, if not more!
