DISNEY’S TAKE CLASSICAL
ORIGIN
How could I not mention Disney’s
iconic take on the classic hero’s tale
that is the life of Hercules? Like
any well versed myth kid, watching
Hercules is an infuriating
experience. Why? Because Disney
gets nearly everything wrong,
including Hercules’ name! That’s
right, Disney uses the Greek
equivalents for every other
character except the title character.
I suppose Herakles wasn’t as good
for marketing though. In contrast with Disney’s version,
Herakles is actually the son of
Zeus and Alcemena, not Hera
and Zeus. Although, I imagine
it's hard to explain Zeus’
numerous affairs to the kiddos.
Hera is the villain in Herakles’
life, not Hades. However,
Disney’s stylized version of
Hades is quite entertaining and
is more accurate than most
depictions of Hades, which often
portray him as the Greek
equivalent of Satan.
