W hy Sh ou ld I B e H Ric har When d G e re I first joined arb ? er, Latin Club, I We knew about stL ake convention, and I’d heard about how “fun” it was to go to convention, make new friends, and participate in academic events. But when I first joined, I thought it would be one of THOSE clubs: the ones where the clique that runs it gets together all the time, but if you aren't a part of that clique, you'll only be in it for a month. I liked our Latin teacher a lot, and Latin class was fun, but so was Spanish class. So I came to the first meeting expecting to join, then forget about the club. It started off like the rest of them. I came in, and the officers started talking about how great the club is, and the teacher spoke on how the club was fun and such. But then I looked at the board, and I realized that there was a get-together planned. And not some dumb one where we go eat “Latin” food. One where you could actually hang out and have fun. And there were events between now and March. Who would've guessed? I was still worried that this was just a thinly veiled clique gathering, but I was curious to say the least. 13
