Wellington

Aquila Simmons

While the Latin club meets on a bi-weekly basis, we have progressed quite far in the past two years. This year we have nearly doubled our fundraising achievement as compared to last year's standard, with success expanding our club beyond convention. We have been planning some fun events including a scavenger hunt (classically themed), a movie night, as well as more fundraising and outreach to expand our membership. Our club created both a commercial and music video this year and intends to continue those as well as expand for next year. After success with the club T-shirts last year we have been excitedly designing for the upcoming design based on the theme of convention, "To err is human, but to persist is diabolical." Our other long term goals include creating regular certamen practices and saving up enough funds to purchase a certamen machine. Althought we are a small club, the Wellington School Latin program has high hopes for the future.

Madeira

Samantha Blackwelder

In its largest annual service project, the Madeira Latin Club organized a club-wide canned food drive. In order to increase participation, a competition was created to see which Latin class could donate the most cans per student in the class. As always, a prize loomed over the competition: a pizza party and an movie in class. While every class participated and the majority of students in the Latin Club donated cans, a clear winner emerged: Latin 4 with 26.5 cans per student. While the Latin 4 class enjoyed their party and movie (Star Wars- an epic, naturally), they did not forget the reason for the canned food drive. In addition to the cans collected from Toga Trick-or-Treat, another annual event, all cans were donated to Inter Parish Ministry, a local food and clothing pantry. Overall, the Madeira Latin Club was able to donate over 2,000 cans just in time for the holidays.

McAuley

Katlyn Havlin

In November, McAuley was contacted about baking cookies for local prisoners on a Kairos retreat. McAuley surpassed expectations when we baked 108 dozen cookies. McAuley's Latin club took special notice of this opportunity and many of our club members participated. Our club's praetor, Brittany Wells, contacted the Lampes (who were in charge of "Operation Cookie") and invited them to talk to us about Kairos retreats and their effect on prisoners.

On December 7th, McAuley Latin club joined McAuley's Service and Justice League to hear a talk by Mr. and Mrs. Lampe. They spoke about the prayers and discussions that occur on a Kairos retreat. Also, they gave statistics about how the retreats were beneficial in making prisoners feel better and prevented them from re-offending. They talked about the difference between Kairos and Emmaus retreats and the importance of hugging. We ended with a question and answer session. After the discussion, our Latin club worked on bookmarks to help inspire hope among prisoners.
