How to Run a Fire Social Media Account (and Win the National Social Media Contest)

First start by observing the masters.
The masters in this case, of Latin related social media, would be the Ohio Junior Classical League. The Instagram page, @ohiojcl, for example, is a good place to start your observations. Once you have perused the OJCL social media, favorited, liked, commented, and retweeted/reshared our posts, then you are ready to begin your new social media page.

Create an account.
Make your profile as professional and clean looking as possible. Save the jokes and bad Latin puns for the captions. Choose a state chapter logo or school crest for your profile picture and keep your bio simple.

Plan your posts.
This is the most crucial step to succeeding in your social media endeavors. Try and post relevant information to your JCL chapter. These can be posts about upcoming events, noteworthy accomplishments of chapter members, and previous events. When planning your posts, twice a month is sufficient. It keeps you in the periphery of your viewer base without seeming intrusive and excessive.

Build your follower base.
Grovel at the feet of your friends, Romans, and countrymen. There is no shame in begging for likes. Likes are everything and comments are just as important. Being interactive with your followers is key. Responding to comments and encouraging conversation is major if you want to win the Social Media contest.

Diversify your posts and platforms.
Mix it up, don't always use the same formulaic pattern to post; engage your followers by being unexpected. Once you have mastered one account, you can branch out to different sites such as Twitter, Snapchat, Tumblr, and Facebook.
Above all these things the most important is to stay classy, classicists.
