O-H-I-O and Other Iconic Ohioan
Cheers for All Nationals Attendees
Katlyn Havlin, OJCL Treasurer
My favorite part of NJCL convention is the spirit competition. It
is basically just state spirit, but on a massive, national scale. This year
I will be implementing a cheer cycle so that Ohio can be extra
efficient in our spirit. Of course, to understand the cycle and be a
productive spirit participant, you must know Ohio’s general cheers.
Below I have some of Ohio’s most iconic cheers and the type of person
each cheer would most appeal to.
Everyone (Better Know This
Cheer): O-H-I-O
(throughout this cheer you’re
spelling out Ohio with your arms)
Leader: O-H!
All: I-O! (repeat as necessary)
For the Lathletes: Step Back
You might be good at basketball,
you might be good at track,
But when it comes to Latin,
You might as well step back!
You might as well step back!
For Mis Amores: Tē Amō
Amō, amās, amat! (clap-clap) Amāmus, amātis, amant! (clap-clap)
Tē amō, tē amō, tē amō - (tē amō, tē amō, tē amō - (rotate right)
Tē amō, tē amō, tē amō! (rotate and face the front again)
For Champions: Victory
Leader: V-I-C-T-O-R-Y! That’s Ohio’s battle cry! Ohio, ‘hio, what’s your cry?
All: V-I-C-T-O-R-Y!
All: V-I-C-T-O-R-Y! That’s Ohio’s battle cry! Ohio, ‘hio, what’s
your cry? V-I-C-T-O-R-Y!
