Chapter Updates! Wyoming ig: @wyojcl • So far, Latin Club has had many successful officer meetings where we planned out future events for the year ahead. We recently had an event with the middle school to get more students interested in joining the Latin Club. This event was a success and many middle-schoolers learned more about Latin Club and what it had to offer. During the meetings, we typically go over the responsibilities that different officers will be assigned for upcoming events. We usually start to plan out new events during these meetings, as well as reflect upon past events and on how we could have done things differently. We are also currently selling yard signs for Latin Club, and sales are expected to rise with the help of our ninth and tenth grade representatives spreading the word. Wellington • The Wellington Latin Club has had a great start to the year and is excited for what will come next! We are having Latin tables at lunch where club members talk to each other in Latin! We are also working on plans for myth readings and Roman food banquets. Shaker Heights ig: @shakerjcl • The Shaker chapter of OJCL has partaken in a lot of various classics-related activities, from the annual chariot races held at the home of Ms Nora Murphy (one of our teachers), to the Fall Forum at Columbus. Members of the Latin club took tests, mingled with other chapters, and got a general feel for what convention is like. We've done some fundraising at the Shake Shack (a certain part of the profits Shake Shack made went to the Latin club). Soon, we'll be collecting toys for our annual toy drive. Summit Country Day ig: @scdlatin • Summit Latin has been busy since the last OJCL convention! We had a great showing at NJCL convention in Fargo, the highlight being our own Ryan Burns leading the Ohio delegation as OJCL president. The Summit Latin Club recently elected our new 2019-2020 board and we are so excited for a great school year! We have 4 sophomores, 1 junior, and 6 seniors including new president Connie Nelson. Do not worry, you can expect the return of the freshmen committee soon! For our first event, we lured unsuspecting high school students at club fair to our booth with a lot of candy....and were able to gain a lot of new members! Back by popular demand, we are gearing up for our “Celebration of the Classics” event and we also have some of our infamous “pizza movie nights” on the calendar. Summit Latin merch will be dropping soon... and keep your eyes peeled for the Summit certamen later in the year! OJCL Fall Torch page 12
