THE OJCL TORCH: FALL EDITION 23
What steps will the OJCL take to accomplish this goal?
Currently, a few initiatives are being developed to work towards this goal. First, we are working on expanding the content of the Torch, by encouraging students to submit articles focusing on other regions of the Mediterranean World. This will be organized and promoted for the release of the Winter Torch. Second, we are in the early stages of organizing a Certamen tournament featuring questions about civilizations outside Greece and Rome in addition to the traditional Certamen syllabus. Currently, this tournament is slated to be open to any member of the NJCL. Stay tuned for more information about both of these programs!
How can I get involved in this project?
The easiest way to get involved is to participate in the programs mentioned above. Writing an article for the Torch is a great way to not only learn about a specific civilization, but to also spread the recognition of that civilization around the JCL. For Certamen enthusiasts, participating in tournaments helps to increase your own knowledge about the rest of the classical world and to support future tournaments. If writing or Certamen aren’t things that interest you, even doing research on your own is still an extremely productive activity to expand your own personal knowledge of the classical world. There are many ways to get involved in this goal outside of this list, try to find something that appeals to you!
