Tying the Perfect Toga Historian Lucia Boadas Peña, Madeira Undoubtedly the hardest, most stressful part of convention is the togas. You pick the wrong sheet and you’re doomed from the start. You tie it incorrectly and before you know it, you’ll be rocking the skirt-no shirt look. No need to worry though. With these tips and tricks, there will be no more 2004 Janet Jackson Superbowl wardrobe malfunctions. Step #1: Choose a sheet. NO FITTED SHEETS. My personal favorite is a cotton full-size bed sheet but feel free to change the size and material (although I’ve found that a twin is sometimes too small and a king is way too big.) Step #2: Choose a style. There’s so many different styles of togas, decide if you want it to look drapey, more form- fitting, or if you want to look like your days consist of being fed grapes while reclining on your lectus and being fanned with palm leaves. Step #3: Tie your toga. Congrats! Now that you have all the essentials for a toga, you are ready to battle the beast. All that is left to do is choose a look and follow the instructions. 14
