McAuley Elizabeth Mushaben McAuley ' s OJCL chapter has been busy since convention! To start things off, this past spring McAuley Latin alumna Sasha Parks came in to our classes for a special seminar on weaving to complement our study of the Odyssey. Sasha actually taught us how to build ancient warp-weighted looms and weave like Penelope herself! Some of us wouldn ' t have been able to fend off the suitors with our textiles, but we had fun all the same.

To start things off, this past spring McAuley Latin alumna Sasha Parks came in to our classes for a special seminar on weaving to complement our study of the Odyssey. Sasha actually taught us how to build ancient warp-weighted looms and weave like Penelope herself! Some of us wouldn ' t have been able to fend off the suitors with our textiles, but we had fun all the same.
We are also proud to share that former OJCL 1 st VP Julia Cardinal, our club ' s coconsul and the overall sweepstakes winner at last year ' s convention, is now a Classics major at Duquesne University! Despite being only a freshman, she has already been hired by the Classics department as a Latin tutor! # LatinPays. We’ re all extremely proud of her and of what she’ s accomplished.
Last, but certainly not least, McAuley Latin clubbers travelled to Italy for a week in July. Led by Professor Scott Keister from the University of Akron and Mrs. Nora Denning from St. X, seven McAuley OJCLers visited Rome, Florence, Pompeii and more on this action-packed trip. The Mohawks were even set to climb Mt. Vesuvius itself, but wildfires had them fleeing like it was 79 A. D. all over again! If you ' ve ever wanted to see anything else, though, in Italy, the girls probably saw it on this trip of a lifetime! Finally, three students – Katlyn Havlin, Ellie Kammerer, and Julia Cardinal – went to Alabama for Nationals and represented Ohio very well there! Congrats, ladies!
