Introducing: OJCL Grant Application

Treasurer Kelly Thaxton

Let's be real here: being a

high schooler can be tough.

Having to balance a full week

of school with jobs,

extracurriculars, sports, etc.

can be really difficult,

and sometimes things can

be put on the back burner.

Service projects take a long

time to come up with

and commit to, and it is so

vital for the growth of the

OJCL that local clubs continue

to do service projects,

fundraisers, and events around their community to get the classical spirit out into the world. Sometimes, it can be difficult to come up with ideas that aren't too expensive and money can be a major limiting factor to the world of service. The OJCL grant application is here to save the day! This application is intended to help expand the OJCL and the service it does and to help new clubs establish themselves, and the application can be easily found by going to ojcl.org. The application consists of eleven simple questions that will give the board an idea of what you will be using the grant for, and it doesn't take a long time to fill out. It's highly encouraged that you check out the application if you want to do service around the community, because the OJCL wants to help you in your efforts to spread the classsical spirit!

In addition to the Grant Application, there will be a soon released “Guide to Fundraising” that will be a guide on the best ways to fundraise that includes the best times of year, ideas for fundraising, and any additional helpful tips! Fundraising is so important because you can fundraise for a charity or cause, to help set up convention scholarships for people in your school, and to do more service projects! The Grant Application and fundraising guide are meant to work together, helping to increase and sustain the funds of local chapters all around Ohio. If you have any suggestions for the fundraising guide, please email them to the aforementioned email address. New suggestions and idea is going to help make the guide as helpful as possible for all members of the OJCL! Valete!

Left Sharknado

Aquila Simmons, Wellington

As suspicions rise about so called “Left Shark” appearing more and more frequently at both States and Nationals, other states have begun to point at the Ohio delegation as responsible. While it is imperative that left shark continues to make appearances at desired events, Plan Left Shark-nato cannot be discovered before it is fully on its way. As various theories arise about left shark’s plan and the reason behind its continued accumulation of knowledge about the JCL and convention, none have discovered the secret truth about what is to come. Left shark will continue to traverse the ins and outs of the Ohio Junior Classical League until ready to initiate Plan Left Shark-nato, a whirlwind of left sharks so powerful it turns everything backwards and off beat. But remember, you can’t tell anyone until left shark is ready to make a move. It is our job to make sure it does not fail, we must protect left shark until the time comes, but worry not left shark is with us. Just remember it’s a secret.
