At-Convention
During convention, there will be many events that will
allow you to share your platform with the delegates
attending convention:
1. Nominations Committee (Friday Night) - This is the
very first election event. If more than 2 candidates
pre-file for a specific office, then all the candidates for
that office will give a 1 minute speech. All voting
delegates will immediately vote to choose two
candidates who will move on to the general election.
The Parliamentarian will notify all candidates in
advance whether they need to prepare a speech or not.
If there are 2 or fewer candidates for the office, you
automatically move on to the general election.
2. Campaigning (All of Saturday) - After Nom Com on
Friday Night, you will bring all of your campaign
materials to the state chair and the Parliamentarian
to be approved (see rules below). After that, you may
campaign until voting fellowship on Saturday night.
Before GA III on Sunday, all of evidence of your
campaign must be removed.
3. General Election Speech (Saturday during GA II) -
This is your chance to share your platform, ideas, and
experience to all of the delegates at convention. It is
traditional to have a friend introduce you, but the
introduction and speech together may not exceed 3
minutes.
4. Meet the Candidates (Saturday Night) - This is the
last election event. Current officers will ask the
candidates 3 questions each. You will have two
serious questions (typically one about experience
and one about ideas) and one silly question, with
answers limited to 30 seconds.
Immediately following the event, you will head to
voting fellowship.
5. Voting (Saturday Fellowship) - During this
time, all of the chapters will decide which candidates
to vote for, as well as amendments.
6. Results (Sunday Morning) - Immediately following
the contest and test results, the Parliamentarian will
announce the results of the election.
7. Swearing in (GA III) - Finally, the newly elected board
will be sworn in during GA III, and sadly, convention
will end.
