A Letter From the Parliamentarian on RUNNING FOR OFFICE Salvete OJCL, When I ran for office in 2019, I thought that it was the most daunting task I would ever face. I didn't know a whole lot about the process beforehand, and I kept questioning if I was making the right choices and plans. As a result, I spent much of my time before convention being worried about the result before I had even taken the journey. It is my hope that this guide can help to uncomplicate the process and remove much of the confusion and uncertainty that nearly stopped me from running for office in the first place. If you are qualified to run for office, then I highly recommend that you do so. By the end of convention, you will walk away having learned and grown so much from the experiences that you had. No matter the result, it is an incredibly rewarding experience. Putting yourself out there the way you do as a candidate is no small task, and the lessons you learn are invaluable. And of course, getting to play a role within the JCL as a state officer and giving back to such a wonderful community is an experience like no other.
