It turns out that the far and away largest contributor of oil to the oceans is not large spills, but people's everyday lifestyle and choices about driving or buying a certain product. It is true that large spills have the largest effect because they are large amounts of oil in extremely concentrated areas, however land runoff contributes 300 million more gallons of oil into the entirety of the world's oceans(Gradwhol, Judith). Not only is land runoff the most substantial source of oil pollution but it is the easiest to stop. By buying electric cars and buying from green companies people can stop land runoff as well as big spills because there will be no demand for oil.
