Edwin Drake completed the very first rig in 1859 in Pennsylvania. Though the depth was only 69.5 feet this rig launched the modern oil industry. The first well was producing 20 barrels a day. For those of us who are not familiar with drilling methods in the oil industry this issue introduces some basic information about how modern technology makes deepwater drilling possible.

In April, two international oilfield service companies officially opened their new custom-built facilities in Takoradi – Expro and Africa Oilfield Services Gh. Ltd. OilCity magazine was present at the launch of these new facilities and you can learn more about it on the following pages.
