NEW APP TACKLES OBESITY
Fitness entrepreneur Nicolas Depierre is tackling childhood obesity with a
revolutionary new app. Federico Re explains.
n the early 80s, when I was under
10 years of age, I was skinny,
weighing a mere 30kg. But back then,
this weight was the norm among kids,
with obese children being few and far
between.
I
Today however, the weight-related
statistics of our younger population is
vastly different; so much so, it’s
concerning health experts throughout
first-world countries including Australia
and America. Fast food choices, a lack of
regular physical exercise, and misleading
and conflicting information seems to be
contributing to this global epidemic.
A tragic reality
According to the Global Burden of Disease
Study published in 2012, where more
than 500 researchers across 50 countries
collected 100,000+ data sources, it was
determined that the biggest killer for

adults and children was diet. Sadly, it
concluded that not eating enough fruit
was responsible for an estimated 4.9
million deaths around the world, every
year!
According to Australian health experts
and nutritionists like Dennis Nicolle, ‘If
Aussies ate just one extra serve of fruit or
vegetables per day, this would save
thousands of lives per year, and reduce
medical costs across households in the
order of billions of dollars each year.’
The vision of a young entrepreneur
Earlier this year, I was invited by fitness
trainer and aspiring entrepreneur, Nicolas
Depierre, to join his team of experts in
Melbourne, to help develop a new app
that is specifically designed to tackle
obesity in children. The result is Nutrition
Revolution, which has been developed
with a legacy of building and shaping the
future health of our children, by
encouraging them to adopt a healthier
lifestyle.
Despite there being a large number of
apps available in the market that
encourages healthier living, there are few
options available to educate, inspire, and
re-educate our young people about how
to achieve and sustain overall good
health.
Nicolas’ mission for Nutrition Revolution
is not about changing a person’s lifestyle,
but instead, it’s about forming good
habits from a very young age so as to
create a new generation of fit and active
individuals with a healthy mindset and
positive outlook in life. Nicolas refers
these children as the ‘heroes’ of the
future.
