GET YE, TO THE ADELPHI
If you're looking for accommodation with a difference,
then look no further than the Adelphi Hotel. Analee Matthews explains.
ecently, I got the opportunity to
stay at the Adelphi Hotel in the
heart of Melbourne’s CBD. I thought I
was in for the stock standard hotel
experience, but boy, was I wrong!

From the minute I landed at 187 Flinders
Lane, Melbourne I was impressed.
Miriam greeted me in reception with her
fancy accent, which made me feel like I
was in some exclusive European
establishment. Highly acclaimed Om
Nom restaurant (renown for its incredible
dessert menu) is visible from the
reception area and this, coupled with the
eye-popping
art
installations
and
strategically dim lighting, creates a
distinctly unique and intimate vibe.
Craig the porter, did a great job at
unloading my car and taking my excess
luggage up to my room on the eighth
floor. Without a doubt, the customer
service at this boutique hotel is easily
comparable to that found in the most
high-end, larger scale accommodation
options.

Denton Corker Marshall sold the Adelphi
in the late 90s, but the new operator
struggled to maintain its edge and the
hotel went into voluntary administration
in June 2006. Ongoing strata title issues
thwarted its new owner, along with the
onset of the GFC in 2008 and the
construction of a major building opposite
from 2011 to 2013.
