(Women’s Health) A WORD OF WARNING FOR THE LADIES NARDIA NORMAN Nardia Norman reminds us of the dangers of overtraining. adies, if you are on a restricted diet and intense training program, and along the way you lose your menstrual cycle, then I want you to understand that this is your body's way of telling you that it is over stressed. L While you may want to give yourself a high five for avoiding a monthly inconvenience, with regards to your long term health there can be a serious price to pay. I want you to really hear what I'm saying and be mindful of the message, because by choosing to put your body into a stressed state you are actively risking your overall health. For example, your metabolism becomes less reactive, your immune system may become less robust (leading to more illnesses and niggles), your bone health may be compromised, and you may also be placing your reproductive health at risk. There are also potentially negative effects on your mental health, from calorie restriction and over exercising. So, if you are someone who indulges in these behaviours, then please understand may be at a higher risk for developing depression and anxiety, for experiencing a change in cognitive thinking, and for becoming more stressreactive.
