( Fitness & Motivation ) MICHELLE BRIDGES THE POWER OF PARTNER TRAINING Michelle Bridges helps you stay on the healthy track during the holidays. hat’s better than sitting on the couch watching trash TV with your partner? Training together on a morning, afternoon, evening or weekend! W Trust me, in the time it takes you guys to talk about Daenerys and her dragons, you can get in a wicked workout that will bond you better than any gossiping about Game of Thrones storylines can! Training together still gives you time to talk (between sets), plus you get to encourage and push each other to produce your best efforts and sneak a celebratory smooch at the end. Here’s a terrific training session for two. You can start with the reps prescribed and progress to AMRAP ('as many reps as possible') for 10, 20 or 30 minutes. Squats: 20 reps Single Leg Deadlifts: 5 reps per side A barbell will boost this, or go bodyweight and add a jump to burn baby burn. Whatever option you choose, remember feet hip width apart, knees over toes, torso taut and eyes on the horizon - technique over time, every time. Stand on 1 leg, and tip your torso forward as you take your other leg back. As your torso tips forward let your arms hang down, then as you stand back up squeeze your butt. Hold a kettlebell or dumbbell to kick this up a notch. Push Ups with a Clap: 10 reps If your wrists can’t cope with the impact, grab a powerband, wrap it across the back of your shoulders and chest, and loop it under your hands. This will create resistance that you would otherwise get from the explosion extension off the ground. Choose knees or toes, and remember to keep your tailbone tucked and torso taut throughout. Russian Twists: 10 reps (right + left = 1) Sit on the floor with your knees bent and lean back keeping your chest up. Twist your torso from side to side, extending your arms to full length for added intensity. Race your partner as well as racing the clock, and egg each other on as the going gets tough – no time out for the team until the final whistle blows!
