CONTROL YOUR CONTROLLABLES

Take a reality check with trainer and coach , Nardia Norman .
NARDIA NORMAN o you ever have those days or
D weeks where nothing seems to go right ? Those moments where things just pile on top of each other ; for example spilling coffee all over your favourite shirt , your car breaking down , getting sick , or sh * t just hitting the fan ?
What you can take care of is your response . You can choose to laugh at the ridiculousness of your situations . You can choose to take a deep breath and focus on something else . You can choose to take your frustrations elsewhere – like to the gym !
Urgh ... it can be so annoying . And it feels like the universe is out to get you .
My last three weeks have kind of been like that – so many random things have happened : burst water main ( therefore no cold water for two weeks ), car breakdown , lost ALL the data off my back up hard drive ( right before a massive powerpoint presentation was due ), and soo much more . My matrix had glitched hard !
At first I took it all personally . ' Why me ?' I cried , followed up with ' why now ?'
Everything that happened was well out of my control , but the only thing I could control was my reaction to it . After a mini pity party , I decided to change how I was reacting to those events . Cursing them , or wishing for a different outcome wasn ' t helpful . but changing my reaction to them was .
Here ' s the thing – there are many scenarios and events that happen in our life , which are totally out of our control . So if you learn to be okay with NOT controlling those things , then your life will feel a whole lot easier .
When you fully acknowledge that there are just some things in life that you have zero control over , and you surrender to that , life becomes a lot more freeing ; free from worry , stress and pain . When you fully acknowledge that there are some things that you can control , such as your thoughts and reactions , then you ' ll start to feel more confident and oddly enough , in control .
So , let go of the things you can ' t control . Don ' t waste any more mental energy on it or them , and instead , when things really hit the fan , take a moment to be super appreciative of all you have in life , and see how different ( and great ) that feels .
When you pause to be appreciative for all that ' s good in your life , those annoying or ' bad ' things don ' t seem quite so bad after all .
