"Of course, who knew that life was
going to take such a turn for us?
We are still blown away by all that's
happened. It's amazing and we
appreciate it all, but sometimes we
still feel like those kids growing
up in Adelaide."
also much more patient and much more considerate and
caring. When you don’t have kids, you don’t have to think
about anyone but yourself, but then all of a sudden
nothing is about you and it’s all about them! I think I had
a romantic notion of what motherhood would be like. I
thought kids would just fit into my old life and nothing
much would change, but it’s very different; all in good
ways. You can’t tell someone what it will be like though;
you only know what it’s like when you’re doing it.’
Of course, being a fashion stylist Jules believes
motherhood does not need to impact on a woman’s sense
of style.
‘You do not have to sacrifice comfort for style,’ she says
adamantly. ‘You can be comfortable and still look very
stylish. For example, today I’m wearing a black tank top
– not an activewear one – it’s from H&M, it’s affordable,
it’s pressed; v-neck, shoestring tank top; and I’ve got
black, drop-crotch pant, some Gucci slides (you can get
cheap lookalikes); I’m in all black but I am so comfy
because it’s like I’m wearing thongs, trakky pants and a
singlet! But I’m not! I’m a mum of two so I am always
picking someone up, or running around at the park, but I
am also all about comfort because it is necessary to feel
comfortable in this role. I cannot concentrate if I am not
comfortable. I want mums to know that there are other
alternatives to activewear! For instance, instead of wearing
thongs, choose a beautiful pair of slides – there are so
many out there that are comfy and they look much better
than thongs. Maxi dresses are great alternatives to
leggings; oversized shirts you can wear on their own or to
the beach. Look for things that are comfortable, but which
still look stylish – when you do, you’ll be surprised at how
many options there are.’
