In order to move forward a shift in mindset is required. 3. Inclined – You’ve accepted where you are but realise that the ‘now’ is temporary and will change in the future. Positive action is all that is required for success. Action your goals and the motivation will come. The message here is to take that first step. Can you identify yourself or those around you in one of the stages of inertia? he word ‘fail’ might seem harsh, but if we can’t recognise that we all have tendencies that stop us from being the best version of ourselves, then it’s appropriate. T We see people not being the best version of themselves in two spaces – physically, where they’re not looking after their wellbeing, or psychologically, where their mindset isn’t right. The modern world is complex. It operates at a pace that many are ill-equipped to cope with. We deal with an estimated 60,000 thoughts per day (mostly negative), repeating thought patterns and behaviours that see us slip back into repeated cycles of failure. We see momentary blips of positive action and results (in finance and stock trading they call it the ‘dead cat bounce’), but it’s an otherwise downward trend. 22 AUGUST 2015 ( OH! MAGAZINE ) So how can we close the gap between who we are, and who we know we can be? The three states of inertia We need to recognise the three states of inertia and how they stop us from becoming invincible – a state where we are flourishing in wellbeing, finances, career and relationships. This is where ‘your best you’ lays dormant, ready to be activated. 1. Inanimate – You are stuck, not necessarily accepting of the situation you’re in, but indecisive over first steps. You can be ‘paralysed by possibilitiy’ and need support with formulating goals and actions. 2. Indifferent – You are too comfortable with the status quo, sailing up the ‘river denial’ seeing no problem with being below the success line. You don’t feel you ‘Everything is as it should be’ means you are where you are right now, based on the decisions you have or haven’t made, and the actions you may or may not have taken.
