Mate, as outdoor lovers, we've all witnessed the massive problems in the bush
caused by well meaning but citified conservationists. Just recently the CSIRO announced a major report that found small
native mammal populations had been
decimated by cats and feral pigs - something we as bush users have known for a
decade! And the proposed answer? Spend
more money on research...
It's that kind of frustration with 'politically
correct' management of the bush that led
to the formation of Unlock Australia. We
believe that Australia's bush, beaches and
oceans are not something that should
be preserved for some mythical future or
left to mother nature - that these are our
lands to enjoy and that they need common
sense management to survive. Shutting
gates is the easy option, we need to find
better answers to the problems that allow
the people who've paid for these lands to
access them too.
We're also very concerned with the 'privatisation' of public lands which consistently sees access barred to all but a few
elite groups. As Australians, the bush, the
beaches and the waterways belong to all of
us. This is our birthright.
lands than ever in the history of this country, have been almost catastrophic. Let's
not mention extreme bushfires and the
ridiculous environmental conditions imposed on cool burning - the only thing that
could change that situation permanently!
It's ridiculous in a country as huge as Australia with such a small population to gate
people out of bush lands. Unlock Australia
is dedicated to reversing this trend, to suggest and promote better ways of managing
public lands and to involve all bush lovers
in the care and maintenance of our country.
I'd urge anybody concerned with access to
our public lands and common sense management of the bush to join Unlock Australia. Membership is free and we urge people
to participate in showing our politicians
and bureaucrats that we do exist, that we
have valid points of view and that management of out lands is everybody's business,
not just a small group of conservationists
who can't seem to get it right.
Visit unlockaustralia.com to join.
Thanks mate!

Originally the Green movement raised
some very important issues that are important to all bush lovers however the
last fifteen years have seen them become
increasingly academic and elitist and out
of touch with practical land management.
The results, apart from less access to public
