KEEP IT WILD ~ KEEP IT SAFE

KEEP IT WILD ~ KEEP IT SAFE

Fernie is within the WILD. We must all do our part to keep it that way and play SAFE. Plan ahead, take only photographs, leave no trace, and make many memories. Be an AMBASSADOR! Plan and travel with care and respect. Protect the land, water, wildlife, plant life, your fellow recreationalists, and our communities as you adventure in the WILD.
Plan Ahead & Be Prepared.
TIP! Complete and share your trip plan with family / friends – Use the AdventureSmart Trip Plan App.( See adventuresmart. ca)
Respect Wildlife & River Life.
TIP! Know what to do when you encounter wildlife. Keep your distance. When fishing practice proper fish handling.
Travel on Trails. Camp Responsibly.
TIP! Stick to designated trails and camping areas to reduce impact on the land.
Minimize Campfire Impacts.
TIP! Check for any fire bans first. Avoid campfires in the alpine.
Dispose of Waste Properly.
TIP! Know before you go how to dispose of human waste and garbage and plan accordingly.
Leave What You Find.
TIP! Respect natural settings and leave plants, rocks and other objects as you find them.
Prevent the Spread of Invasive Species.
TIP! Help protect our land and waters, read up on local details by visiting EKISC. com.
Be Considerate of Others.
TIP! Be mindful of others enjoying the area. Excessive noise, poor behaviour, and uncontrolled pets take away from everyone’ s experience.
Official Ambassadors visit a variety of popular front-county and back-country locations around the Fernie area throughout the summer season to support cleanup, maintenance, and projects, to connect with visitors and local recreationalists to promote safety and ethical outdoor practices, and to collect data and monitor activities that can support long-term sustainability, planning & decision-making.
