Stop by the Fernie Visitor Information Centre to see replicas of two fascinating examples of aquatic life that once inhabited the area. A huge life-sized replica of the Coal Creek ammonite, Titanites occidentalis, is the largest of its kind found in Canada and dates back approximately 150 million years.
Also on display is the most complete ichthyosaur skeleton in North America. It has been identified as a new species and named Fernatator prenticei after both Fernie and its discoverer, Tom Prentice. This remarkable skeleton dates back approximately 190 million years.
