TECHNICAL OVERVIEW

Fabio Quartararo had plenty to test in the preseason , including two new engines , new aero packages , a new chassis and swingarm – a far cry from this time a year ago , when the M1 was unchanged . Second , the bike ’ s huge deficiency last year – a lack of top speed – was addressed with the Frenchman was third fastest through the speed traps on day two when riding alone , thanks to a stronger engine . But that has come at a cost . A late switch to last year ’ s aerodynamics and settings at the final test brough comfort back to the Frenchman . But it hasn ’ t gone to plan so far . Quartararo has just two podiums ( one in the Sprint , one in a GP ) from the first eleven rounds , and has often complained of a twitchy , nervous bike which has none of the sweet-handling characteristics of the M1s from years gone by . One bright spot was an updated aerodynamics package brought to Austria , which helped massively with wheelie . Even still , the Misano test , which followed the twelfth round of the season , showed the factory is still in a massive rush to be competitive for 2024 .
