Pecco Bagnaia , 2022 World Champion with Ducati
When I signed for Ducati , it was my goal , my dream . Sometimes , when I was at home , I thought : “ If I had a good choice , the good team for my future ...”, and I was always saying to myself : “ Yes , this is the good thing , this is the dream ” and if I am able to win the title with this bike and this team , for sure it will have a different taste .
Ducati win the World Championship for the first time since 2007
I was feeling all this pressure , all this weight behind me and it wasn ’ t easy , but it was also a motivation to achieve this goal and I ’ m very proud of my whole team so it ’ s incredible for us .
One of the greatest comebacks in Grand Prix racing
91 points were a lot , but I was thinking about the potential that we had . I was not that type of rider that has this kind of up and downs , I had a better consideration of myself . I was sure that I was able to be competitive to fight for the title and to be the World Champion . I used the determination and the ambitious to be there , to be fighting for it , just understanding that I was a rider able to do it . In the same moment I started to believe it , I started to be very competitive and to work in a different way . I tried to work from the FP1 , just in the race pace , in the new starts … This just helped me a lot to be more focus in the race situation . That way has helped me to start winning .
Four wins in a row
You start feeling that you ’ re unbeatable . And it ’ s something that … It ’ s not good to say but when I finished second in Aragon , I was angry to not have the 5th win in a row .
Fabio Quartarao ’ s second part of the season
Maybe Fabio [ Quartararo ] was too defensive in that part of the Championship . I don ’ t know if I put too much pressure on them but for sure , something has changed because , looking at the first part of the season , they were more constant and , in the second half of the season , they started struggling a little bit more .
Valencia Grand Prix , the decider
I was in a better situation than Fabio . It was easier for sure , because he had to win and I had to finish 15th , if he wants to win the Championship , but in this kind of situation is very easy to commit mistakes . At 3 laps to go , I saw that Fabio was in P4 , after Jack [ Miller ] crashed and I was 9 , so I was knowing that this was enough to be World Champion . Then , in the last lap , when I crossed the finish line , I saw in my pit board that I was the 2022 World Champion . In that moment , I wasn ’ t understanding what we did , what we achieved .
