Silvers tone is the former site of RAF Silvers tone , a base for the Royal Air Force between 1943 and 1946 . Following the end of World War II , it was repurposed as a racetrack , hosting the first British Grand Prix™ in 1948 . The track used the perimeter roads , incorporating Hangar Straight and the run from Woodcote to Copse Corner , connected to the runways by tight turns .
