Lewis Hamilton has enjoyed a remarkable run with the Brackley team . Having logged his first success here with McLaren in 2008 he won seven times for Mercedes between 2014 and 2021 , and last year even with a recalcitrant car he made it to the podium in third .
However , it ’ s been a frustrating three seasons under the current regulations for Hamilton and team mate George Russell , but things finally appear to be coming together ,
Like its two immediate predecessors , this year ’ s W15 has proved hard to tame , but with consistent development it has gradually improved , and the team believes that it now has a good understanding of what it needs .
Monaco showed signs of an upturn in form , and the subsequent pole for Russell in Montreal was a huge boost for everyone in the Mercedes camp , although the race itself proved frustrating . Hamilton and Russell then shared the second row in Spain , where the former had the edge in the race and logged his first podium of 2024 in third . Those recent performances demonstrated that the team has the potential to be in the fight across a range of venues , and if the latest upgrades work as planned , this could be a strong weekend .
