Welcome to Silverstone , the home of the FORMULA 1 BRITISH GRAND PRIX , where Formula 1 ® had its first-ever Grand Prix almost 75 years ago . Since 1950 , when it hosted that first-ever round of the FIA FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP , this event has transformed into one of the biggest on both the British and international sporting calendars .
In 2024 , the Silverstone you will see is one of the world ’ s best racing venues , delivering a high-speed test for our drivers , coupled with an incredible atmosphere and hospitality for almost half a million fans over the course of the weekend . This is a testament to our collaboration and energy to improve our sport with the teams , Silverstone and the British Racing Drivers ' Club .
Ten British drivers have combined for a total of 23 wins here , and this year it will be the home race for three on our grid : Lewis Hamilton , George Russell and Lando Norris . I know that the home fans will give them all incredible support and , with the grid closer than ever , the championship is very competitive , so the chance of seeing one of our British drivers on the podium is high .
While the drivers will be the ones to take the podium , we should also remember that the UK is home to seven of our ten teams , directly employing over 6,000 people who all contribute to the success of Formula 1 ®. I would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to their hard work , as well as to those at all our teams , the marshals , volunteers , and emergency services who make our amazing events possible .
But the British Grand Prix is really all about you , the fans . Without your passion , commitment , and love for the sport , it would not be as successful and enduring as it has been over the many decades . Whoever you are supporting this weekend , cheer loudly , enjoy every second of the event , and spread the excitement for this incredible sport .
