Victories at the 2016 Dutch GP and the 2017 British Grand Prix convinced HRC to promote him to the MotoGP™ class in 2018 . He scored 33 points that year and 74 in 2019 despite carrying a shoulder from the Dutch GP . Nakagami arrived as a MotoGP™ force in 2020 however , scoring top ten finishes in each of the first ten races . He failed to continue that form in the following two years , however , as a variety of issues with an uncompetitive machine saw him score a single best result of fourth . With compatriot Ai Ogura waiting in the wings , Taka knows he must perform this year .

Hij scoorde dat jaar 33 punten en 74 in 2019 , ondanks het oplopen van een schouderblessure tijdens de Asser TT . Nakagami kwam in 2020 terug als een MotoGP™-kracht en scoorde top-tien-finishes in elk van de eerste tien races . Hij slaagde er echter niet in om die vorm in de volgende twee jaar voort te zetten , omdat hij door een aantal problemen met een niet-competitieve machine met slechts eenmaal een vierde plaats zijn beste resultaat scoorde . Met landgenoot Ai Ogura in de coulissen , weet Taka dat hij dit jaar moet presteren .
