Delano is a GROWING COMMUNITY!
As it continues to expand and develop, residential,
commercial and recreational opportunities are made
available to community members. This growth requires
clear direction from the City’s Planning Commission
and Council. The City’s strategy of ensuring high-
quality growth in a controlled fashion requires
diligence on review of applications and planning
future developments. As a result, the City relies on
the Comprehensive Plan. This document outlines
requirements for new developments and identifi es
ideal land uses for all areas of the community. The
Comp Plan establishes growth rate for residential
growth; recommending enough growth to pay for
infrastructure and services, yet restricting growth
at levels deemed harmful to the plan’s objectives.
The plan also identifi es necessary park areas,
transportation corridors, infrastructure needs and
design characteristics. New development typically
begins with annexation. Filling its corporate limits, the
City is expanding into adjacent Franklin Township by
means of annexation. As this happens, clear direction
from the Planning Commission and City Council are
essential components to the controlled growth of the
town.

Planning and Land Use. As the City continues to grow,
City planning become increasingly important to
the community. The Delano Planning Commission is
responsible for reviewing all development applications
including plat approvals, zoning amendments,
rezoning, variances, appeals and special use permits.
The Commission will then make its recommendation to
the City Council who will then make the fi nal decision.
All applications, help sheets, and an application
schedule can be found on the City of Delano’s website

Parks and Recreation. Parks and
recreation are an integral part of the
quality of life within the community.
These programs provide a vehicle
for residents to enjoy fellowship
with other community members,
participate in events and spend
time outdoors with friends and
family. The Delano area is blessed
with a great parks system that hosts
many opportunities for residents
to participate in recreational
programming.
Park

and

to the quality of life within the
community. Delano’s parks offer

Minnesota’s great outdoors. The
City provides a variety of park
needs, ranging from smaller parks located within individual neighborhoods to
larger community parks, such as Central Park.
