Delano Granite Works | 265 North River St N
Delano’s first nationally recognized manufacturer was the
world’s largest granite memorial retailer by 1944. They also
expanded into granite exteriors for construction. The Del-
ano Granite Works owned their own quarries, production
facilities, and sales organization. During its time, it was
the area’s largest
employer,
promoting and
modeling civic
involvement.
The granite
around Delano
is a reminder of
this legacy.
The G. P. Schaffer Building | 216 North River St N
In 1887, this brick building was constructed by G. P.
Schaffer as a general merchandise store. The business han-
dled a full line of dry goods, furnishings, boys’ clothing,
hats, caps, shoes, groceries, crockery and glassware.
Originally, the building had a front balcony and porch.
Delano Schools | 140 Elm Ave E
A State-of-the-art school was built in 1928 to replace fire
damaged buildings. For the first time Delano had a regula-
tion sized basketball court and auditorium.
Rieder Meat Market | 150 North River St
The Rieder family has served the Delano community from
this location since 1911. The Rieder Meat Market is the
oldest operating business in downtown Delano. The pres-
ent building was constructed in 1920.
The Plattner Building | 138 North River St
(across the tracks from the present library). For a period
there was a daily commuter train from Delano to the Twin
Cities. The depot was torn down in 1988.
Independent Order of Odd Fellows | Railroad Ave
Built in 1881 for the C.F. Peters’ General Store. The second
story served as a hall for the Odd Fellows, Mason, Wood-
men, Eastern Star and other lodges. By 1911 the building
was known as the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. In
1942, the building was cut back from the street and con-
verted to a residence.
Wright County Bank Building | 204 Railroad Ave
In August 1880, C.M. Dittman, and C.G. Roosen, visited
numerous places in Wright County with the intent of
engaging in banking. They finally decided upon the
village of Delano.
The Lindsley Building | 282 Railroad Ave
The building was elegantly finished within, with an ele-
vator and other modern improvements. In 1908 Lind-
sley decided to quit the hardware business. By 1909 he
had opened the Lindsley Hotel, a “thoroughly modern”
two-story hostelry.
The Delano Eagle Building | 300 Railroad Ave
The Eagle Newspaper and Job Printing Office was the
home of the oldest established business in Delano. The
office had oper-
ated continuous-
ly at its location
on Railroad
Avenue for over
100 years when
it closed in 1984.
In 1892, John B. Plattner opened a General Store. Over the
years, it has been home to Warhol’s Rexall Drug Store and
later the Brown Plumbing business.
Great Northern Hotel | Railroad Ave
In 1879, the hotel had expanded to 40 rooms and was con-
sidered one of the finest hotels on the rail line. Vacated by the
70's, torn down in 1975 for the new State Bank of Delano site.

Avenue at South 2nd Street
