Delano Senior Writers’ Club
A story to share, a tale to tell, a dream to explore, and a friend
to make.
Experiences, thoughts, and feelings come to life in the cozy
environment of the Delano Senior Center. The writers’ group
helps us know ourselves and our community; ages past and
times to come are explored by amateur writers in a constructive,
supportive environment. Writers’ group meets at 10:30 the first and
third Thursdays of each month. We laugh, we cry, we smile and
we listen to the exciting adventures and extraordinary narratives of
everyday people.
Folks from Delano and surrounding areas have something
important to share. The writers’ group is a safe, comfortable place
to do that. Whether it’s family memories, school day exploits,
heartfelt poetry or the great American novel, you have a friendly,
eager audience at the Delano Senior Writers’ Group.
Delano Snowstormers Snowmobile Club
Delano Snowstormers, a local non-profit snowmobile club
originally started in the early ‘70s, continues strong and active in
2019.
There are 55 memberships (family and individual) and are
members of the Wright County Snowmobile Association, Minnesota
United Snowmobilers Association, Delano Area Chamber of
Commerce, and has DNR-Certified Youth Snowmobile Safety
Instructors.
Club members perform trail maintenance and development
each spring and fall. Groomer drivers manage grooming of
45 miles of trails with a Wright County Snowmobile Association
groomer operated and maintained by Snowstormers, and use
a club-owned small groomer for in-town trails. A well-kept club
shelter nestled in the woods along the scenic trail route provides
snowmobilers a break from their ride. Snowstormers appreciate
and respect landowners’ private properties as they permit use of
their land for snowmobiling. The club takes pride in keeping trail
systems maintained and safe for all to ride.
Snowstormers host an annual fundraiser in December, conduct
youth snowmobile safety training every January, organize special
club events, participate in community events and schedule club
rides as trail conditions allow.
Come to Delano/Wright County and enjoy the great snowmobile
trails! Trail maps are available at local businesses throughout the
county.
New members are always welcome. Club meetings are held
the second Monday of each month at the Delano American
Legion, 7:30 p.m. For more information call 952-955-2894 or visit
delanosnowstormers.com.
The club also hosts the Delano High School trapshooting team
and provides financial support to many organizations, including the
National Wildlife Federation, Minnesota Conservation Federation,
Freshwater Society, TIP, and many others.
The club financed, as well as provided labor for the new public
access on Lake Sarah and Dean Lake.
The president of the club is Tom Delaney. Meetings are the
last Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the clubhouse. Lunch is
provided after each meeting. For more information or to join, call
Joe and Jan Kittok at 763-972-2989. Dues are $150 per year, with the
opportunity to reduce that to $50 through work projects around the
club and volunteering for shifts at the Fourth of July Celebration.

Library, on the third Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. Call the
library at 763-972-3467 to confirm meeting dates and times since
they may change. We are always looking for new members so
please consider joining.

awareness of the library, by hosting events and providing media
communications.
Delano Sportsmen’s Club
The Delano Sportsmen’s Club was founded in 1898 as the Delano
Gun Club. In those days, the club was made up of the community
elite, and activities consisted mostly of hunting raccoons, and
training dogs. Trap shooting soon became one of the club’s major
activities, as well.
As the years went by, it became evident that conservation of the
environment and wildlife was necessary to preserve the
community’s heritage and future well-being, so the club gradually
became involved in activities promoting this. The club was largely
responsible for governmental action prohibiting the unregulated
dumping by industries and others into the Crow River.
In 1937, the club changed its name to the Delano Sportsmen’s
Club, as a broader membership base was desired. With the
building of the new clubhouse in 1974, the new traphouse in 1985,
and constant improvement of the range facilities, including the
shooting shelter in 1987 and ongoing significant noise abatement
, the organization has grown to more than 500 members. The club
purchased the 75-acre farm just west of the club house and is
constructing trapshooting ranges on a portion of the land.
Some projects of the club include winter feeding of pheasants,
raising pheasant chicks for restocking, annual planting of
evergreen tree plots for habitat improvement, a firearm safety
course, a bowhunter safety course, an advanced firearms safety
course, and a members-only turkey shoot and fishing contest.
