FOREWORD The American Miniature Horse Association, Inc., was incorporated in July 1978 to provide an organization to promote the breed and to maintain a permanent registry devoted wholly to the interests of the Miniature Horse. The AMHA is chartered under the laws of the State of Texas as a nonprofit corporation. The Association is an exempt organization under Section 501 (c) (5) of the Internal Revenue Code. As defined by AMHA, any horse that exceeds thirty-four (34) inches in height is NOT a Miniature Horse and is not eligible for registration. Temporary papers are issued to Miniatures whose parents are both registered with AMHA. If after three (3) years of age the horse is thirty-four (34) inches or under, application may be made for permanent registration. Membership in AMHA is available to all persons who subscribe to the objectives of The American Miniature Horse Association, agree to abide by its rules and regulations, and who apply for membership. Regular members are those persons who have registered with AMHA one or more horses and who have paid their membership fee. Associate members are persons who do not have horses registered with AMHA. Youth members are those persons under age nineteen (19) who are interested in the objects and purposes of the Association but who may or may not own a Miniature at the time of application for membership. All regular members are entitled to vote on any Association matters, whereas Associate and Youth members do not have voting privileges. THE MINIATURE HORSE WORLD, published by AMHA six times yearly, is the best source of information concerning Miniature Horses. This outstanding publication provides articles by experts in all fields of the horse world, a show calendar, advertisements and articles by breeders, and much, much more. A free breeders list is also available upon request. Miniature Horse shows give breeders and exhibitors opportunities to compete for awards. These competitions enable the public to see the various types and uses of the versatile Miniatures at their best. This handbook presents the current Bylaws, Show Rules, Standard of Perfection, Rules and Regulations, and fees for our membership. Changes have been indicated by bold print.
