AM-010 REQUIREMENTS All show rules apply to the Amateur Division except where specifically modified in the passages below regarding the Amateur Division. (Amended 2-20-04, effective 01-05) All past professionals, prior to the beginning of their five year waiting period, must be an AMHA member and declare in writing their intent to the AMHA before the waiting period begins (the waiting period being five years). An advertisement will be placed in the MHW of the person’s declaration. In the last year of the five year waiting period, the AMHA will place advertisements of the declaration in a minimum of five MHW editions. Any protest by AMHA members may be made any time during this final year of the waiting period, in writing with a $100 fee. The protest will be reviewed by the Show Rules Committee with the AMHA Board as the Appeal Level. (Amended 02-12, effective 01-2013) 147 SHOW RULES A. Amateur Eligibility 1. For horse show purposes, a person is considered an amateur when he or she is no longer eligible to compete in youth classes and has not engaged in any activities, except as a youth, during the past five (5) calendar years which are listed below. a. Having accepted remuneration in the last five (5) years for showing any horse at halter or in performance competition, training, schooling either horses or other persons. b. Having accepted remuneration in the last five (5) years for having conducted seminars, clinics, given instruction in showing, training or judging. c. Having accepted remuneration in the last five (5) years for judging or being a horse breed association judge or horse show association judge. d. An individual who has had entry fees paid or has received premium money would still be considered an amateur. 2.  Having the occupation of veterinarian or farrier or owning a tack store or boarding stable do not in themselves affect the amateur status of a person who is otherwise qualified. 3. Any person who does not qualify under these rules and shall knowingly and falsely represent himself to be an amateur in order to show in halter or performance classes for amateurs, and any person who violates any of the provisions of this rule shall be subject to disciplinary action. 4. Amateur cards will be required to show in all amateur classes. a. Amateur card numbers are to be submitted on entry forms that have amateur class entries. b.
