National Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC week National Reconciliation Week (NRW) runs annually from the 27 May – 3 June. Echoing this year’s theme, Don’t Keep History a Mystery, Officeworks is committed to celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and histories, to share knowledge and explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. In the East Bentleigh Support Office, we ran several events. Representatives from AFL SportsReady spoke about Indigenous employment, the Warumilang program and their partnership with Officeworks. Team members also heard from The Clontarf Foundation who spoke about what they are doing to close the gap in the education and employment of young Aboriginal Men. To conclude the week, the team was joined by Supply Nation who aim to connect Indigenous suppliers with buyers like Officeworks through their directory of Indigenous businesses. As an audience, the team were left to reflect on how they could integrate Indigenous businesses through their roles at Officeworks. The sessions were all educational, eye-opening and thought provoking. Stores across the country took part in lots of exciting activities, celebrating both NRW and NAIDOC week. They were encouraged to acknowledge these events by organising indigenous themed activities including morning teas, crafts, face painting and balloons. This year, Taree shared a breakfast with The Clontarf Academy during a training morning. They were also involved in the NAIDOC Week Fashion Parade, preparing 100 Officeworks goodie bags and 40 special VIP bags, to leave a memorable impression for a spectacular evening. Great work by teams for their commitment and creativity during these important weeks. 33
