OECS Education Statisticians Meet to Discuss the Further Strengthening of Administrative Data Systems
The OECS Education Development Management Unit (EDMU) is continuing its thrust to further strengthen administrative data systems within the education sector for better decision-making. To facilitate this, the EDMU has sought to strengthen capacities at the Ministerial level for improving the collection and use of data at all levels of education systems within the OECS. In seeking these improvements the EDMU has focused not only on the production of statistics but moreover, the use of those statistics for decision making. This targeted approach has thus far resulted in the development of data informed education sector plans.
In an effort to continue building upon the many achievements in improving the situation regarding education data in the region, the EDMU hosted its annual meeting of Education Statisticians September 19 - 20, 2016 in Grenada. The Objectives of the meeting were to:
1. Review the draft of the fourth edition of the OECS Education Statistical Digest and outline
recommendations for improving the draft;
2. Present status reports on compilation of the various national digests, national baselines and
targets for the OESS;
3. Make further improvements to the OECS education census questionnaire with specific attention
to capturing data from national colleges;
4. Provide update on national initiatives for improving the accessibility, quality and use of
education statistics.
The meeting was funded by the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF.)
