The St. Lucia Government Statistics Department (GSD) is making use of mobile devices to improve data collection through computer aided personal interviewing (CAPI). This technology allows the Global Positioning System (GPS) coordinates to be included in the dataset which can be used to plot where the interviews are executed and transmit that information to the database at the GSD.
This new initiative is expected to benefit the GSD by improving the timeliness of data collection, ensuring data quality and comparability, allowing the collection of new types of information and data and providing cost effective sustainable solutions.
