The data contained also allow for analysis of trends, the assessment and monitoring of system performance which can be used to propel necessary action for improving access to and quality of education. The data collected are used to calculate indicators to track, monitor and evaluate progress towards the attainment of targets and goals in the OECS Education Sector Strategy (OESS), Education for All (EFA) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
The preliminary chapters of the Digest provide brief details on country demographics and the general structure of education systems in the OECS region. The other chapters detail the number of institutions, information on leaders and teachers, data on student enrolment, the internal efficiency of the systems, system outputs – specifically examination results – and some information on financing education. We expect to extend the coverage to report on the following indicators:
- Percentage students reading at or above their Grade level (Grades 2, 4 and 6);
- Percentage students performing at or above the minimum standards in
Mathematics at Grades 2, 4 and 6;
- Number of CVQ entries;
- Percentage students passing at least one CVQ (Caribbean Vocational
Qualification) at Level One;
- Percentage of secondary teachers at least a 75% workload within their area of
specialisation.
