WATCH THIS! This info-graphic shows where cellulose comes from, moving from the raw material (wood) through subsequent levels of resolution down to the cellular level. Sappi: viscose similar and equally destructive. Having once been there, Sappi has long since committed itself to be a responsible player as far as the environment is concerned and has either designed its new plants or converted its old plants to produce both paper and pulp with a minimum effect, in the form of toxic or hazardous effluent being released into the environment. It is also increasingly using the volatile components of wood to contribute to its external energy-reduction program and is up to 70% self-sufficient in energy at its Saiccor plant and 100% self-sufficient at its Ngodwana plant. Globally, Sappi already generates over 50% of its energy requirements from renewable resources (such as the bark, lignin and other parts of the tree extracted in the pulping process). and cannabis are not strictly speaking different plants, only different sub-species with the former grown widely in previous times for its fibres, which made the era of sail possible. From these fibres were made the canvasses for sails and paintings, as well as clothing (which is why the Afrikaans word for shirt is hemp). With the possible legalisation or decriminalisation of cannabis under discussion of late, all that may change. But for now, the Sappi info-graphic pertains and so viscose, a steadily growing fibre player, is becoming increasingly popular with regards to its contribution to modern life. Sappi's pulp plants Given the direction of things in terms of global economic trends since the downturn of 2008/9, Sappi has shifted its strategic focus to produce an ever-greater slice of its income pie from DWP. Sappi has three major plants for the production of DWP. These are its Saiccor plant at Umkomaas, in KwaZulu-Natal, ]?????[?H[?[??[??Z] \[X[[??H??[??K[?]???]Y][? ?X\?[] Z[??\??H[?HT?XX?\?Y??\?[??\X?]Y\?H?ZX???[??[???X?H ?H ?\?[???\?[??[JH??[]H? \?[??
