Walkable Neighborhoods A quiet residential area located just north of the campus. Most students who rent in this area live on 49th Street, Melrose Parkway or Longwood Drive. Many professors choose to live in this area because of its convenient location. Rental property in Larchmont consists primarily of houses and rooms for rent. Located immediately south of the Old Dominion University campus and extending to 38th Street, this area has a mix of houses and apartments for rent. Lambert's Point has a community center, which students can use for a low yearly fee. Lambert's Point also has an active civic league, which meets once a month. This neighborhood is located east of campus. Highland Park borders ODU on Killam Avenue and boasts many unique restaurants and shops. This area has a mix of houses and apartments. Easy Access to Campus Located approximately three miles south of Old Dominion University, Ghent is an older downtown neighborhood that has been revived and renovated. The area’s apartment complexes, which range from turn-of-the-century to modern, are inhabited by Old Dominion University and Eastern Virginia Medical School students, professionals and senior citizens. Houses for rent and apartment complexes can be found in the Ghent area. Students can bike, use public transportation, or make the short drive to campus. Monarch Transit (university bus system) gives FREE rides to students on the weekends to a nearby Walmart and the MacArthur Center in downtown Norfolk.
