students, faculty and staff after dark. The service is intended for individual and small group
rides home to a residence hall or nearby off-campus residence.
The SAFE RIDE service boundary mirrors the ODU Public Safety jurisdiction: 38th St. to
Magnolia Ave., and the Elizabeth River to Colley Ave.

Home Safe
Don’t make your house or apartment a target of crime. Take some simple steps to secure
your home.
Lock your doors and windows, and pick up free door and window security alarms
in the Off-Campus Student Life Office.
If you see something, say something. Call 911 for an emergency.
Do not open your doors to strangers.
Get a Free Home Safety Evaluation inspection through the ODU or Norfolk
police department.
Install smoke alarms on every level of your home. Test your alarms at least once
a month.
Trim your shrubbery so that no one can hide behind bushes on your property.
Secure your doors by replacing the screws in the door frame with longer screws.
Consider getting motion-activated lights.
