Wonder Woman TBC Released 2 June Director Patty Jenkins Starring Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Lucy Davis Wonder Woman Well, it’s about time! Twenty-one years after the idea was first mooted (with Ivan Reitman attached to direct), the world’s most iconic female superhero is finally getting her own feature-length cinematic outing. And if the trailers are anything to go by, we’re in for a barnstorming treat. Titled simply Wonder Woman, this fourth instalment in the DC Extended Universe series sees Gal Gadot reprising her role from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice for an origin story that reveals how Diana, Princess of the Amazons, first became the lasso- cracking, sword-wielding, bullet- deflecting Goddess of Truth. For a comic-book movie (the plots of which are usually shrouded in 2 JUN secrecy), we know a fair bit. The film is set at the height of WW1 and sees US fighter pilot Steve Trevor (Chris Pine – Captain Kirk in the rebooted Star Trek series) being rescued by a tall, armour-clad warrior princess after his plane crash-lands in the ocean. When Steve regains consciousness, he finds himself on Themyscira, an idyllic island populated by an all-female Amazonian tribe, including Robin Wright’s General Antiope, Connie Nielsen’s Queen Hippolyta and Gadot’s Diana (his rescuer). Steve tells the women about the massive conflict raging around the globe and the young princess vows to help – thus taking her first steps to becoming Wonder Woman. Darkness within Tone-wise, it’s hard to think of a more bleak setting than the First World War, and Wonder Woman’s preview monologue hints at the film’s dark underbelly: “I used to want to save the world, this beautiful place. But the closer you get, the more you see the great darkness within...” But the trailers suggest a lighter side, too, with Lucy Davis (The Office – UK version) providing comic relief as Etta Candy, Steve’s secretary who takes it upon herself to look after our titular duck out of water. Power. Grace. Wisdom. Wonder. We Watch the trailer can’t wait! • A live-action version of Disney’s animated classic Aladdin is in the works. Expect a whole new world of fun! odeon.co.uk 5 Inc.
